Lower back pain isn’t just a problem amongest the elderly anymore; it is an affliction that even young and healthy people are going through. Are we really surprised? Our work time is sedentary, and our leisure time is ‘chilling.’Considering our lifestyles and routines, back pain comes as a no shocker, plaguing the young and elderly alike.

One way to easily avoid back pain and keep our bones and health in great condition is to exercise, but most complain that they do not get the time to hit the gym as much as they would like to.

Doctors might prescribe you pain killers and other medications to relieve the excessive pain. If you cannot work out on your own, they might even suggest physical therapy to help you correct your posture, and get your bones the necessary exercise and movement that you need.

Both of these sound dreary. However, you can’t just go on ignoring your chronic back pain, waiting for it to get worse. If you’re not into working out, and you don’t want to pop those pills, there is an alternative that is said to work just as well, and is a very fun, effortless way to get rid of your lower back pain.

We’re talking about hot tubs. Did you know that sitting and relaxing in your hot tub for an hour or so every day can have a significant impact on your lower back pain issues? It’s called spa therapy, and it is quickly gaining traction among the medical community for how effective it has proven to be when it comes to relieving chronic back pain among people. In fact, a report published by the British Journal of Rheumatology claims that spa therapy has proven to be more successful in alleviating back pain than treatment by medication.

So how does spa therapy help back pain? Hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy is a treatment where people immerse themselves in hot water, which works to assuage their body pains. And it is not a new practice either; the ancient Greeks used it ages ago to cure back pain. However, modern medicine has only just started recognizing the impact of hydrotherapy when it comes to treating back pain.

Let’s talk about how a hot tub reduces back pain.

Heat

Heat is an effective remedy for all sorts of body pain, including lower back pain. Doctors often recommend putting hot compresses on trouble areas to help the pain. Heat encourages blood flow and circulation, helping muscles relax, which consequently leads to less pain. A short soak in a hot tub does the same for you. The heat from the water can provide your lower back with some much-needed relief.

Buoyancy

Water makes you experience just 10% of your body weight. Being immersed in water for a few hours helps take the weight and pressure off your lower back, which goes some way toward alleviating body pain.

Massage
